Learn More About Government Schemes, eShram Card Benefits, Guide, Importance, Significance, And Other More Information

India’s economic engine hums with the tireless efforts of millions of unorganized workers. From construction laborers and street vendors to home-based artisans and migrant workers, this vast and diverse segment forms the backbone of the nation’s growth.

However, unlike their counterparts in the organized sector, these workers often lack access to formal employment benefits and social security schemes.

eShram Card Benefits Guide

The eShram card, an initiative by the Government of India, aims to bridge this gap and empower unorganized workers by providing them with a unique identity and a gateway to various social security benefits.

Understanding eShram

Launched in 2021 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, eShram (meaning “e-labour” in Hindi) is a national online portal designed specifically for India’s unorganized workforce. It functions as a centralized database for registering unorganized workers across various industries. From construction and agriculture to transportation and home-based services, eShram encompasses a wide range of professions within the unorganized sector.

The eShram Card: A Myth or Reality?

While there isn’t a physical “card” issued under eShram, the registration process generates a unique e-Shram identity linked to your Aadhaar card. This virtual identity acts as your gateway to various social security benefits being planned by the government.

eShram Card Benefits

Registering on eShram offers significant advantages to unorganized workers:

  • Universal Account Number (UAN): Upon registration, each worker receives a 12-digit UAN. This acts as a lifelong identifier for accessing various social security schemes that may be rolled out in the future, such as accident insurance, maternity benefits, and pension schemes.
  • Enhanced Visibility: The eShram portal creates a centralized record of unorganized workers, making them visible to the government and potential employers. This could lead to better policy decisions for their welfare and even open doors to new employment opportunities.
  • Financial Assistance: During emergencies and national crises, the eShram database can be used to identify and provide targeted financial assistance to unorganized workers who are most vulnerable during such times.
  • Skilling Opportunities: The government may utilize the eShram portal to connect registered workers with skilling initiatives, potentially enhancing their employability and earning potential.
  • Improved Access to Government Schemes: In the future, eShram registration could simplify the process of applying for various government schemes designed to benefit unorganized workers.

Who Can Register on eShram?

Registration on eShram is open to all unorganized workers between the ages of 16 and 59 years. However, individuals already registered under schemes like EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation) or ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) are not eligible. The only essential documents required for registration are a valid Aadhaar card and a mobile phone number linked to the Aadhaar.

The Registration Process: Simple Steps

Registering on eShram is a straightforward process that can be done online or through designated Common Service Centres (CSCs).
